Little did anyone know, when the IHSAA baseball tourney concluded on June 18 of last year, it would mark the last official game for a great while.
Over a year later, with the 2020 high school baseball season cancelled due to public health concerns, seniors from all over our great state were left without a farewell season and a chance to say goodbye in normal fashion.
Partnering with area high school coaches and athletic directors, the World Baseball Academy (WBA) of Fort Wayne put together a plan to gift area seniors with a reboot of sort, one final night of lacing up the cleats that was capped with traditional senior night introductions.
On July 13, over 50 seniors from the greater Fort Wayne area gathered with family and friends at the WBA complex.
After partaking in some rust removing pre-game warm-ups, the 2020 graduates split into 4 squads and gave fans an opportunity to catch two contests at once, while reveling in the chance to “play ball” one last time.
