Korbyn, Heidi and Kayliana

Heidi Hammel is a certified 911 dispatcher for Parkview EMS and Samaritan air and ground. She has served in that position since 2012.

A Huntington native, Hammel is a 1998 graduate of Huntington North High School and holds an Associate of Science degree in Medical Assisting from Ivy Tech College.

While at Huntington North Heidi was a four-year member of the girls’ basketball team, participated in track and field for two years and served as a student manager for the volleyball and football teams.


Heidi currently lives in New Haven and likes to spend her free time watching her two children, 17-year-old Kayliana and 12 year old Korbyn participate in sports.

Heidi’s parents are Deann Hammel and Barry Hammel. Her stepmother is Linda (Poulson) Hammel.

She has three siblings, sister Mallory and stepbrothers Jacey and Corey Poulson.

What Inspires You

My trainer, the late Buddy Brennan was a long time and well respected EMT, first responder and dispatcher. He was very hard on me, but it was extremely evident the passion and love for the job he carried and expected. He made a huge impact on me and the recognition of the responsibility and accountability of the job. At times, it was a struggle, but looking back I wouldn’t have wanted anyone else as my trainer.


Looking Back, I Would Have…

I wouldn’t necessarily change anything. No point if having regrets, but if I did, I would have put more effort and work ethic towards high school and my basketball career. I know I definitely didn’t achieve my absolutely potential and ability.

Future Plans

I am not sure about the future, but I can’t see myself doing anything else for an occupation. I love helping others and being that first voice to respond to a caller and get them the help they need, as well as make it my priority to look after all of the medics and public safety workers.


Winds of Change

Over the 8 years< I have grown so much as a person/dispatcher and learned a lot about myself, as well. We, as a department, have grown tremendously, going from dispatching Huntington County and Samaritan to now dispatching EMS and 911 service to 6 counties in NE Indiana and still growing
