Vikings ground Eagles
Huntington North HS
The Den's Mike Rice
To say the visiting Eagles were looking to control the pace of the game, might get you nominated for an understatement of the year award.
Columbia City's offense was deliberate from the start, as they worked to spread the Viking defense, at times, running minutes off the clock before hoisting a shot.
Breaking out to 8 to 0 lead during the first quarter, the slow approach paid early dividends, before Huntington North rallied and sent the
game to halftime down just 1 point at 13 to 12.
The Vikings opened the 3rd period with 6 straight points, highlighted by Hank Pulver's breakaway dunk that brought the thunder stick equipped student section to its feet.
Columbia City closed the third stanza with a long buzzer beating 3 by Mitchell Wilson to send the game to its final 8 minutes with Hunting North ahead 23 to 21.
A Trey Williams 3 pointer put the Vikings up 29 to 23 just past the midway mark of the last quarter and would prove to be too much forvthe Eagles to over come.
HNHS went 8 for 8 from the free throw line down the stretch and punctuated the win with a Sawyer Stoltz fast break dunk late.
