It was Senior Night for Huntington North, with Bob Straight court serving as the backdrop of pre game ceremonies honoring the careers of Lady Viking seniors Peyton Dorsett, Kyler Hoopingarner and Madalyn Robrock.
In a preview of next week's sectional matchup, the Huntington North Lady Vikings played host to the Ft. Wayne Southside Lady Archers on Tuesday night.
The Lady Archers capitalized on early turnovers from Huntington North and jumped out to a quick 6-0 lead. The Lady Vikings regrouped and played even with South Side for the remainder of a frenzied first quarter, that saw a combined total of 8 fouls between the two teams, to enter the initial break down 15-9.
The second quarter opened with Huntington North, looking to send their three seniors out in style, continuing to fight basket for basket with the 34th ranked (4A) Lady Archers, trimming South Side's lead to 5 points at 21-16.
South Side would respond with a 21-2 run, fueled by a stretch of hot shooting, ending the first half at 53 percent (17-32) and holding a 42-18 lead.
Refusing to concede, the Lady Vikings continued to scratch and claw during the game's final 16 minutes, but weren't able to overcome the deficit.
South Side moves their season record to 13-7 with an 80-31 win.
The Lady Vikes (6-14) travel to Dekalb (2-18) on Friday, in the season wrap up for both teams.
