Huntington North made the short drive to Ossian to take on Norwell on Friday night.

With the Vikings giving up a paltry 43 points per game and the Knights holding their opponents to a measly 45 points per contest, the game promised to be a defensive slug fest.

While expectations turned out to be true, the match unfolded in an unexpected manor.

Huntington North struck first to take the game's opening lead. The Vikings would continue to strike through the game's first 8 minutes, while holding Norwell without a bucket, entering the first break ahead 9-0.

Huntington North continued to stymie the Knights offense for another 5 minutes and 45 seconds and saw their lead grow to 18-0 before Norwell would finally get on the scoreboard with 2:15 left in the half.

A late run by the hosts closed the gap to 13 points, at 18-5 at the game's midway point.

A 3 pointer by Garrison Berge on the second half's opening possession pulled Norwell to within 10 points, but the Vikings would answer quickly.

An "and 1" by Huntington's Sawyer Stoltz rammed the lead back to 13 and quelled any hopes of a quick rally from the Knights.

While Norwell's offense was able to get back on track during the third quarter, dropping 13 points, Huntington North picked up the pace, as well. The Vikings tallied 15 points of their own and closed quarter three with 33 to 18 lead.

Fourth quarter action saw much of the same as the offenses tried to make amends for their slow starts, trading baskets for the final 8 minutes. Huntington would win the quarter 15-14 to finish the game with a 48-32 victory.

Stoltz led the Vikings in scoring with 20 points. Hank Pulver added 12.

Norwell was led by Levi Leidig with 10, while Brege and Will Geiger each finished with 8.

The win moves the VIkings to 15-3 on the year. They will take on Fort Wayne South Side on Saturday at Huntington University.
