ZACHARIAH SMITH CHASING HIS DREAM
Hat Tip Valerie Clarkson
This year’s American Idol has so many talented individuals. There is one contestant from Wabash Indiana. That individual is Zachariah Smith, can he sing, he performs in any genre. Zachariah was born in Wabash on March 30, 2003, was raised in Wabash, Indiana, attended Wabash High School graduating in 2021. Zachariah then moved to Armory, Mississippi after he graduated from Wabash High School in 2021. Zachariah was involved in the high school choir, the Wabash High School Mens Choir, and the All-State Honors Choir. Zachariah was part of YET (Youth Evangelistic Team). Zachariah has won many awards at the Nationals which is Freewill Baptist associated competition.
Before going to Amory Mississippi, he worked at Wellbrook Retirement Home in Wabash. Zachariah works at Bill’s Hamburgers in Amory, a family-owned business. Zachariah is married to Crysta and became a father to her three children from a previous marriage. Zachariah said, “She keeps me running.” Zachariah also said about her children, “the kids are my world, I love them so much.”
This writer met Zachariah and Crysta when he played a concert at the Eagles Theatre in Wabash on March 30, which happened to be his 20th birthday to raise money for his family while he is on American Idol. This writer’s grandson, Dylan Morris attended Wabash High School with Zachariah before he graduated in 2020. They had Media Arts class together, through the Heartland Career Center and Wabash High School.
Zachariah is a down to earth individual who walks with God every day. Zachariah has been singing since he was young. Zachariah dream has always been to be on American Idol. Right now, he is getting to fulfil his dream. I asked him what he wanted to be when he grew up. Zachariah said, “to be a musician and performer.” Zachariah had the opportunity to sing the National Anthem at Lucas Oil Stadium. Zachariah was honored to sing with Foreigner when they came to Wabash. He got to sing the song “I Wanna Know What Love Is” with them. Zachariah said, “that his Choir Director, Mark Nevil influenced him into singing even more”.
He lost his dad when he was 8 years old. His mother, Deborah Smith raised her three boys after he passed by herself. Zachariah said, “My mom is my biggest blessing.” “I would never be where I am today, pursuing my dreams without her and my family!” Zachariah said. It takes a strong mom to be able to raise 3 boys. Zachariah’s future plans are to support his family the best way he can, to donate what the good Lord has blessed him with and to have sold out tour dates.
